Conservation

  •  Conservation- Andrew Godier     Conservation is the care and protection of earths natural resources for later generations to use. Maintaining  diversity of species, ecosystems, and genes is a big focus for conservationists.  Conservation seeks to preserve nature from human activities like logging, hunting, and mining. These things destroy earth to where sometimes it can’t keep up. Human population growth has led to unsustainable rates of consumption and simply our earth is being destroyed to measures that are irreversible. The Earth is losing its biodiversity. The main factors surrounding a loss of biodiversity is habitat destruction, climate change, invasive species, and pollution. By the loss of biodiversity it’s causing for some animals are close to extinction. Scientists estimate that extinction rates are roughly a thousands times higher than fossil records. Conservation practices and policies range from the removal of invasive species, to setting aside land for endangered species. Yellowstone is an example of a conservation park. They are one of the biggest ones in the United States.

    I really enjoyed reading your blog! I think that it is very important to talk about conservation and how it is damaging our earth. I think these areas are a positive thing in the sense that we are able to store resources for future generations especially because you mentioned that human population growth is increasing. I also think it is a very sad thing that biodiversity is being lost in the hands of destruction causing animals to become extinct due to climate change, loss of habitat, the list could honestly go on, however, I do think it is good that we have an opening of conversation about this topic and hopefully we can open up more parks such as Yellowstone!

    I enjoyed this post a lot because my blog was about conservative too. Biodiversity is something more people should be concerned about because the earth is losing it fast. This Is also important because as you said animals are losing there habitats too which is making them go extinct. Great blog!

 Hannah Bailey  There have been posts about sea levels rising however its not just affecting the sea. The water rising is also affecting the land. There is always the conspiracy that Florida will be fully submerged. It is stated on “the travel” page that Florida could be submerged as soon as 2050. This means that section of land will become apart of the sea life ecosystem. All of the oil preserves, the towns, even maybe cars would be submerged and begin to add more pollution to the ocean. This would require the citizens on Florida to have to reside elsewhere. Around 20 square mile of land has been consumed by sea levels rising. That is equivalent to 9,680 football fields of land gone. The image shown is a demonstration of what Florida will begin to look like if we dont take action fast. Groundwater issues

 30% of the worlds available freshwater is groundwater. NASA sent out a recent study that 21 out of 37, of the largest aquifers in the world are being depleted. It is estimated that 20 percent of the worlds crops depend on groundwater. Northern India which is the nations breadbasket for wheat and rice produce, is depleting ground water at a fast rate of 54 billion cubic meters a year. In the United States 50% of people get their drinking water from groundwater and 27 trillion gallons of ground water are brought up and used in the United States per year. Some areas are sinking such as Mexico City as an inch per month because of the ground water depleting underneath the city.  As the population increases the depletion of the ground water increases as well. Desertification Taking Over

Jessica Seaton The term desertification is defined as, “land degradation in arid, semi-arid and dry-humid areas resulting from various factors, including climatic variations and human activities.” These are areas that are extremely dry and receive little precipitation each year. The rainfall it does get transpires and evaporates from the land. The way desertification happens is due to the way the land is or is not managed. The climate, global warming and human flaws are some of the ways the land gets destroyed.    The climate plays a big factor as the land is warming more rapid than the Earth’s surface. The human caused issues are due to vegetation, deforestation and overgrazing of livestock. With the way rainfall is changing it is allowing the soil to dry up causing the desertification as well.
