Types of Waste Disposal
Hannah Bailey
There are many types of waste disposal that I was unaware of. Some that are environmentally safe and others that are not. It didnt cross my mind to think of where exactly does our waste go? The different types are recycling, compositing, incineration, sanitary landfills, ocean disposal, and plasma gasification. The phrase “Reduce. Reuse. Recycle” was repeated over and over in grade school. Recycling is one eco friendly way to get rid of waste considering it turns the waste into something that can be used again. Compositing, another eco friendly type, takes different kind of waste like old food and turns it into something that can be used for gardening or crops. Incineration just burns the waste however runs the risk of harmful chemicals in the air. This is the most inexpensive way to dispose trash even though it is not the most beneficial to our environment. Landfills are exactly as stated, pieces of land that are being filled with compacted waste. This article was composed in 2014 and mentions that scientist are looking against the ocean ways of disposing. In 2021, now they are trying to find ways to get the waste out of our oceans so save the sea life and underwater ecosystems. Plasma gasification takes waste and turns them into energy. This is one of the most effective ways to emit energy in a beneficial way. Plasma gasification isnt the most convenient way however it will be very beneficial to our planet if there were more of these around. Especially if this could produce energy for humans to use instead of fossil fuels.

This blog was really informative. I knew about most of these was to get rid of waste except the plasma gasification. I think that’s a great way to get rid of waste especially since we are running out of energy too.
ReplyDeleteHannah, I found your topic to be very interesting. I've heard of a few of those types of waste disposal just because they are starting to be incorporated a lot more into society. Like more and more food industries and businesses are starting to offer more choices for where to discard your trash. For example, Chipotle offers compost, recyclable, and regular trash. But this is the first I have heard of plasma gasification and I truly hope that our government will make a move toward incorporating this more even if it's more costly and takes longer. Like you said, not only will it give us useable energy but it will protect our ecosystems and I feel that, that should be worth the "inconvenience".
