Environmental Changes in Alaska

 Jessica Seaton

The environment is Alaska has been changing constantly due to the change in temperature and precipitation. There has been sea ice loss, river and coastal flooding, and ecosystem changes all throughout the state of Alaska. It has been consistently warmer than in past centuries with northern and western regions warming at twice the rate of the southeastern part.  The snow season has shortened and perception has increased, the water is even warmer than it has been it the past 150 years. With the change of water temperatures, algae, fisheries and even the human health are being impacted. Several floods have happened in the fall season when seas that expect ice to use as a divider from sea storms are no longer present. There have even been signs of droughts occurring in southeast Alaska.

  2. Ah, I so want to visit Alaska. It still seems to have so much mostly untouched wilderness (nothing really untouched anymore). Hope there are still glaciers when I get there
