Mining

 Hannah Bailey

Mining is causing a lot of negative affects on things like the land, environment, water, and so many more. There has even been a case to where contaminated water was more acidic than a car battery. There is a fact on the WMAN website stating “seventy-eight mines and mining facilities are so toxic that the U.S. environmental protection agency has designed them as federal super fund site.” The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation Liability Act created in 1980(CERCLA) is informally known as SuperFund Sites. This means that they are so hazardous that the government has to get involved to clean up the contamination. Mining pollutes water, increases cancer, killing animals like fish and birds, destroying the land, and is constantly releasing toxins.

  1. It’s crazy that something we do can be so hazardous that the government is involved in it. You would think people would stop all this because it is so bad for the environment

  2. Mining is something that would be hard to stop because we get materials like metal that makes our buildings and transportation.; however, it’s terrible to hear we need to cut down trees and potential kill animals to get these materials. I’m glade the government is cleaning after the mining is done, but they should also do something to restore the environment that was there before it got destroyed.
