Carliss Howell: Alternative Fossil Fuels

After doing research and looking into information about the positive and negative of fossil fuels. I decided to target this blog post on different alternatives energy sources to fossil fuels. It is no surprise that fossil fuels have transformed our world over the years. This had been a very important key factor during the Industrial Revolution. However, over the years, the Co2 levels and other greenhouses gases have increased and are destroying our air quality. That is why in 2016, world leaders all joined a mission to take a stance against climate change; this agreement was called the Paris Agreement. Each country was tasked with attempting to reduce the amount of emissions in order to keep the rise in global average temperatures below 2 degrees celsius.

To understand this agreement, I looked into some different alternative energy sources for fossil fuels. The first source is elephant grass. Before I explain the source, I am going to explain the company that is sponsoring this research. NextFuel is a innovated service company, that provides technology and technical support. Elephant grass is a specialized plant that can grow up to 4 meters and in 100 days (producing several crops). After harvest, Next Fuel uses their technology that requires a little energy transforms the grass into a briquette (compressed charcoal or coal dust) in a factory. By this happening, less CO2 is released into the air making the carbon cycle slowly becomes negative on a yearly basis.

The second alternate source is solar paint. There wasn’t a lot of information regarding this source but the idea is that it would be paint that could generate energy. This would be as a result of absorbing solar energy and moisture from the air.

  1. Carliss,
We are fortunate to have the technology we do today to be able to have these kinds of research projects. It is important that we start to find other alternatives because our resources are limited. Ive never heard of elephant grass before until now. Or solar paint. It is pretty amazing what humans can do with technology. Great read!
