Conservation- the last one
Instead of talking about what other people are doing I’m going to talk about what I have been doing since I was five years old on our family farm. Instead of waiting for changes to happen for us we help it happen at a faster rate. For example, we help wildlife flourish by growing and making homemade habitats for the deer specifically on our land. We also plant food plots so they are well fed if they run out of the natural resource for the season. Some seasons are better than others but my dad and I plan for the worst, sometimes spending a whole lot of extra money to make sure that all other animals eat too. We make the food plots for deer, squirrels, turkeys, raccoons, and even bobcats. The other thing we do is controlled burns so we can “reset” the field for harvest. Even if we don’t use the field for harvesting food we then plant crab grass so there can be natural camouflage for the deer and turkey that hangout in the field. We have gotten it down to such a science that we purposely burn certain fields just to replant crab grass for deer to bed in. Although my family and I have no control over the whole world we are doing what we can. I think that if we all were to live on a farm with the responsibilities we would be a much cleaner planet.
Levi,
ReplyDeleteIt’s awesome that you took a different route to this blog post. There is a lot of things that need to change, every little thing helps! For you and your family to be able to start making these little changes happen is stunning. Way back in elementary we learn about the food chain and what happens when species die off. It is important for us to preserve wildlife. Not just for the ecosystems but for the planet. Take plankton for example. They dont seem like they play a big role however they are the most important creatures in the ocean. Great read!
Interesting. Why crabgrass? Is it the most deer-friendly?
