Land Ecosystems
Jessica Seaton
The levels of CO2 are rising and ecosystems are become less able to absorb the nutrients from the atmosphere. Plants need CO2 to grow and we need them to absorb the CO2 from our atmosphere. Without them absorbing it, our levels will continue to increase. Research was done to figure out why the levels are rising and why plants can no longer absorb as much of it. In their study, they found that CO2 Fertilization Effect has decreased from 21% to 12% per 1000 ppm of CO2 in our atmosphere. The reason for this is the lack of other factors from climate change such as water, nutrients, and sunlight. This factor lessens the chance for plants to mitigate future climate change across the planet. In order to fix this problem, we need to adjust our carbon budget by decrease burning fossil fuel and deforestation.

Jessica,
ReplyDeleteThis is great information! My blog post was about stand for trees which has something to do with this as well! Not so much the effect but you are essentially buying carbon when you make a donation which is helping save the forests from deforestation! I find it neat that our blog posts could go together. I didnt mention much about the carbon aspect however it does go together! This was a very educational read, thanks!
